I thought I was about to embark on a journey from Switzerland to Thailand. But here I am, at the Bangkok airport, passport-less. It was confiscated by the customs officer who ordered me to sit and wait.
Another fellow Belgian, equally clueless about his presence there, joins me in this debacle.
After half an hour, an immigration staff member passes by us. I stop them and ask why we have to wait. Their response leaves us dumbfounded – there’s a 99.9% chance we’ll be deported. Surprised, I inquire further, but they provide no answer and disappear into the crowd… The wait feels endless. Questions swirl in our minds, and the fatigue from a 15-hour journey starts to take its toll…
